Marseille produced a Jekyll and Hyde performance to beat Rennes 2-1 on Sunday evening. OM were pretty much outplayed throughout most of the first half, but managed a freak equaliser right on the stroke of the interval. Previously, they had fallen behind to an early Doumbia goal. African Cup of Nations
It has been well publicised just how much Ligue 1 has been effected by the departure of players for the African Cup of Nations tournament and Marseille are no exception with no fewer than 4 regular starters leaving the south coast to head across the Mediterranean to Equitorial Guinea and Gabon. Here is how our African contingent have been fairing after 2 group games.
Lille’s long 17 match unbeaten ligue run was ended on Sunday night as they fell away at Le Stade Velodrome, Marseille beating them 2-0. Taking all things into account, it was a deserved win for OM and the victory now takes them right onto the coat-tails of the teams battling it out for the Champions League places.
