Marseille will play their 2nd competitive game of the season this Thursday against Eskisehirpor of Turkey, and hold a slight advantage over their rivals with the score currently at 1-1.
The game will be played at an adopted home ground of, Fos sur Mer, Parsemain, due to the ongoing renovation of the Stade Velodrome. As a result, it is difficult to suggest that OM will really have the home advantage, as both teams will be playing in relatively unfamiliar territory.
During the first leg, there were no major surprises. Both teams faught hard, there were some rather rash challenges, there was some sloppy passing and rusty defending, but on the whole OM can be pretty pleased with the overall performance.
In order to succeed in this game Marseille will need to use their width more creatively, utilising the strength, creativity and experience of Amalfitano and Andre Ayew. The attacking players for OM, still lacked a bit fluidity in the first leg, with an over-enthusiastic Andre-Pierre Gignac often being dragged out of position, such was his passion to get onto the ball.
As well as being more astute with their attacks, Marseille must be more careful with their defending. Too often in the first leg they gave away set-plays in dangerous areas. It is only a matter of time before Eskisehirspor score a legitimate goal from such an occasion (as they had a goal disallowed in the 1st leg for off-side).
Predicted score: Marseille 2-1 Eskisehirspor
