OM 3-0 Eskisehirspor Match Report

Marseille completed a pretty simplistic 3-0 victory against Eskisehirspor at Le Stade Parsemain. Andre Ayew grabbed a brace, and Pierre Andre Gignac scored a superb volley to send OM into the next round. Overall, it was a comfortable and impressive performance by Elie Baup’s men and it sets them up nicely for the weekend where they travel to Reims.

The first leg had ended 1-1 and it proved that these Turks couldn’t be underestimated. But they are known as being strong at home so this would be a difficult challenge for them here. After 6 mins, a weak shot from Valbuena was spilled by the keeper and Andre Ayew was on hand to tap in easily. OM were always the side that looked more dangerous, and they nearly doubled their lead when Valbuena hit a free kick against the crossbar.

Eskisehirspor’s closest occasion came in the 26th minute when a free kick was well saved by Mandanda who had to react late because he was unsighted. But all in all they offered very little threat here and OM were at ease defensively. The jewel in the crown for the hosts was a superb 2nd goal from Mathieu Valbuena. He sent a superb volley into the bottom left corner of the net, well worth a watch for anyone who hasn’t seen it.

Eskisehirspor had a good chance to reduce the deficit at the start of the 2nd half, but wasted a free headed opportunity. That was to be their last major chance to get back into the tie, they never looked like threatening much. OM made sure of victory thanks to Andre Ayew’s 2nd goal and the final scoreline was 3-0. Definitely a very encouraging display by Elie Baup’s men, and the draw for the next round is favourable getting Moldovan club FC Sheriff.
