Marseille travel to newly promoted Reims for their first Ligue 1 game of the season. On this first weekend of action, it’s the only match played on Sunday and has prime time viewing at 9pm French time. With the likes of PSG and Montpellier already slipping up and dropping points, its vital OM make no mistakes and pick up a maximum haul at Le Stade Delaune.
OM obtained a comfortable and impressive 3-0 victory against Turkish side Eskisehirspor on Thursday night which should be a nice morale booster ahead of the ligue 1 campaign. Elie Baup will have to do without the suspended duo of Mbia and Amalfitano, whilst Remy, Diawara and N’Diaye remain injured. Cesar Azpiliqueta might well be on his way out of the club soon but he is expected to start in Reims tonight.
OM are more likely to stick to the 4-3-3 formation which served them well in midweek, with Jordan Ayew coming in at right wing to replace Amalfitano. Worryingly, there is going to be a real lack of experience on the bench, so if Baup needs to make changes then it will be up to the youngsters to make a difference. Both teams should attack here and Reims do possess decent pace options upfront. It will be a big day for the hosts and a full house is expected at the stadium.
Overall I expect to see an attractive game of football with plenty of chances and a few goals scored. If OM take their opportunities and play to their potential, then they should have too much quality for the newly promoted club. I fancy a 3-1 win, with the in-form Pierre Andre Gignac grabbing at least one goal.
